OUR MISSION
CURB THE VIOLENCE IN OUR SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES
PARENTS, you are the first line of defense. By taking a more active role in our
children’s lives an immediate impact can be seen.
CHILDREN there is more to life than what is read in the newspaper or what is
seen on television.
When the COMMUNITY speaks as one voice, a thunderous sound will be heard
throughout the community.
DAPSSAV (Drivers, Attendants, Parents, Students, and Schools Against
Violence) was created by a few bus drivers who work for Alpha School Bus
Company. Many of them have been employees at Alpha for years. They have gotten
to know many of these children—almost as if they were their own.
A lot of bus drivers at Alpha were sick of the increasing violence they
encountered on their routes everyday, but no one knew quite what to do about it.
Not only were their lives in danger, but so were the lives of the children they
drove to and from school every day. Many of these bus drivers feel as though
these children are their children because they spend so much time with them.
Just a few months ago, one of the drivers talked to a small group of fellow
drivers about not only thinking about ending violence in schools, but doing
something about it. Cynthia Johnson and a few other drivers decided to hold a
walk in the South suburbs to raise awareness of the ever-increasing violence in
public schools today.
After talking everything through with their boss, Cynthia and the other
co-founders started having regular meetings to plan this big walk. They created
DAPSSAV, planned and organized the walk, and are now asking for YOUR
help in someday ending school violence.
To register in the walk, go to the home page and look
for “Free Registration”. To become a sponsor for the walk on September 6, 2008,
go the home page and click on “How to Help”. DAPSAAV
would like to thank you in advance for helping bring awareness to the increasing
violence present in our schools.
